It’s likely that slower walking speeds are a marker of poor health, and aren’t caused by a conscious decision to walk more slowly. Not a fast walker? Still, if you’re walking slower it could be the sign of undiagnosed health issues. In fact, studies have shown that the health benefits of light activity have been underestimated. Both fast walks and leisurely strolls are important for health. This doesn’t mean that you need to walk fast to get important health benefits. If 1.0 meters/second could mean greater than average life expectancy, than anything greater than that could mean exceptional life expectancy. ![]() GraphicConverter half-wants to be your one stop for image editing, but even if you're on a budget, Affinity Photo, similarly priced, may be a better option for that. It does, however, offer a quick way of working on images without the need for a more extensive – and expensive – program. GraphicConverter might try to do too much or too little, depending on your perspective, and its controls are not always very easily understood. This same haphazard logic is also true for GraphicConverter's "Picture" menu, under which you can find "Levels," "Color Balance," and "Highlights and Shadows," but not "Gamma Correction" or "Unsharp Mask," which sit under "Effect." Confused yet? I have been using the program for a decade on and off, and I still am. In fact, both the "Plug In Filter" menu as well as the "User Defined Filter" option sit under the "Effect" menu. Their placement isn't alway straightforward, though. You can also choose "Effect" and find scores of effects you can apply to your image, but no clear reason why and how exactly these are different from filters. Sure, it's nice to have them, but it's not really clear to anyone but developers why the "Color Posterize" filter is in a different place from "Atmosphere".Ī large number of effects can be applied. Click on "Core Image Filters" and you will find thirteen further categories of changes you can apply to images, courtesy of Apple's Core architecture. There are, for example, four filters ("Atmosphere," "Freeze," "Thermic," and "Dehaze") directly under the "Filter" menu. Apple's now-defunct Aperture, Affinity Photo, and Lightroom each use tabs to get from one mode to another, whereas GraphicConverter relies on you to remember where which function can be found. ![]() Where GraphicConverter fails is in easy discoverability of some of its more obscure functions, and in clearly presenting what you can do with an image where. Back versions of the program are available on the developer's website, so if you are still running older computers in a production environment and for some reason need to reinstall their software, you don't have to search for very long. It will assist you, for example, in turning a 300MB TIFF into a 5MB JPG while allowing for a balanced trade-off between resolution and compression. As long as that job has something to do with opening obscure image formats, converting a plethora of formats into something else, resizing photos, or generally optimizing them, GraphicConverter has long been my first choice. But it is the tool that will get the job done. ![]() ![]() Like a swiss army knife (which it sports in its logo), GraphicConverter is not always the best tool to get the job done. It doesn't garner the spotlight with flashy marketing. GraphicConverter keeps to the background. You can scale images to the current desktop's size with just the click of one menu item, or you can quickly trim their edges so they will conform to one of the most frequently used images aspect ratios.īatch convert mode lets you very easily turn a folder of any readable file format into a large number of other formats. You can also add borders or crop sides out of a photo pixel by pixel. You can quickly choose whether you want to resize an image, and what kind of interpolation you would like to use. The program's resize function is especially useful (I use it to make sure header images for my Fstoppers posts conform to the needed dimensions all the time). You can easily batch convert pictures with control over how much or little compression you want to apply. Its browse mode doesn't just let you scroll through folders, but through photos saved in Dropbox and OneDrive, or Apple's Photostream as well. Chances are, it will open the format you couldn't open in anything else, and you will be able to convert it into what you need. It can export anything it can open into one of 80 different formats. GraphicConverter can open about 200 different file types. In this view, GraphicConverter most resembles software such as Lightroom or Apple's obsolete Aperture. ![]() I'm hotter than the suicide girls on your switchboards! One of the biggest issues with the first Octopath Traveler is that the characters had very few crossovers between their own stories. Had dungeons been any more elaborate, they could have been a laborious chore to get through. While the dungeon design is simple, it works well considering that you have to play through all eight characters, each of which has at least four chapters. Most of them consist of linear passageways with a boss at the end and some diverging paths every once in a while with a treasure chest. The accompanying dungeons that punctuate each chapter are brisk in order to accommodate all eight characters in the main cast as well. The mix of modern technology like the steam engine and magical elements like curses and prophecies makes for a fascinating location. Octopath Traveler 2 takes place in Solistia, which is a much more industrialized setting than the first game’s Osterra. The sequel is a definite level up, but there’s still room for the series to accrue experience. However, there are still some pain points of its predecessor that linger here, namely its grind-infested pacing and the occasional difficulty spike. It pulls that off for the most part thanks to strong visuals, music, and a battle system that still feels fresh. Combat and art were on point, but limited interactions between its cast of heroes took some of the punch out of its eight-hero premise.įive years later, Octopath Traveler 2 is here and seeks to remedy those issues from the first game, proving the series is more than a pretty face. The first game made good use of its innovative art style with a fantastic turn-based battle system and robust customization options. It wasn’t just style without substance, though. Reminders and calendar events don’t always work because they don’t make enough noise. Yours on the other hand, works no matter what. And if my alarm is to remind me of something during the day, unless I keep the other app open all day, it won’t work. Yours works even if my phone is silent and I forgot to set, but it has to be for every Thursday, when the alarm I might need is for a meeting or a flight that is 3 weeks or a month away. My other alarm does that, but I have to remember to open it before I go to sleep. Some simple suggestions would be to add options to the alarm like to set it for every other Thursday, or for a specific date. I had to download a separate app for that, and I wish I didn’t have to do that. what I don’t use if for is an alarm because there are not enough features. I use this app for many things, timers, stopwatch etc. I think this app has just been neglected or de-prioritized and is in need of a little TLC by developers or more people are going to stop using it. Either way, after being a lifelong apple clock app user, I am considering deleting it and finding another one. I can’t remember when exactly I started noticing this but I think it may have been after an update. I now have to use multiple alarms, as I can never trust the snooze is going to work. I know lots of people use calendar reminders for this reason, but why not build in a calendar to make the alarm app more functional?Īnother issue I’ve noticed more recently is, the swipe to snooze is so touchy that more times than not the alarm doesn’t swipe down properly and turns off rather than showing the option to snooze or turn off. For example, when I find out I need to wake up early for a flight 3 Fridays from now, why don’t I have the option to set the alarm for the day I need it to go off? The current option forces you to set it for every Friday. It would also be nice to be able to set an alarm for a particular date rather than just the standard day of the week. ![]() It would be cool if there was a way to group alarms for various tasks/activities into folders. While Baja Blast has a teal-blue look, and the flavor is claimed to be a derivative of “tropical lime” overall the drink seems to be mostly similar with the ingredients and the caffeine in Baja Blast being largely consistent with standard Mountain Dew. After conducting extensive research to develop a beverage that could complement menu items at Taco Bell, they exclusively sold the flavor “Mountain Dew Baja Blast” in Taco Bell restaurant chains. The primary ingredients for Mountain Dew consist of carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup (which is replaced by sugar in limited edition promotional runs), concentrated orange juice, citric acid, natural flavors, caffeine and a bunch of proprietary flavors and colorings.
