Garry Chalk is Optimus Primes’ second most common voice actor Chalk voice Optimus Prime in all three of the Unicron Trilogy shows, as well as providing the voice of Optimus Primal in Beast Wars and Beast Machines. Other actors who voiced Optimus Prime are Neil Kaplan, David Kaye ( Transformers Animated), and Jon Bailey ( Transformers: Combiner Wars). Peter Cullen would be the voice of Prime in most media, most notably the live action movies and the Transformers: Prime TV shows (and sequels to Prime). It's almost the complete opposite from the heroic Prime in the classic cartoon. Eeyore is the depressed donkey, always saying something gloomy. A prolific actor since the 80s, Cullen is also well-known for providing the voice of Eeyore from Winnie-the-Pooh. Peter Cullen is the original voice actor for Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots. Marvel Comics were also publishing the original Transformers comics during the 80s, even having the Transformers crossover with their Marvel heroes. This includes naming Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Cybertron, the Transformers home planet. Both Shooter and Budiansky would come up with the names and terms of almost every character and setting of Transformers. Another Marvel writer and editor, names Bob Budiansky, was also in charge of writing all the biographies for the character that came written with every toy. ![]() Hasbro asked the then editor in chief of Marvel Comics, Jim Shooter, to come up with a compelling backstory for the characters. Safe to say, these names were terrible, so Hasbro decided to come up with new names and backstory for all the toys. The toys that would one day end up being Optimus Prime and Megatron were initially called Battle Convoy and MC13 Gun Robo P38 U.N.C.L.E in Japan. If you want to see more of Alan Tudyk, we have an interview with him on our Talking Strange podcast here.Hasbro recognized that the toys had unique designs and could be a hit with children. This is exciting! Seeing Optimus and all the different Transformers in a post-war world? Hell yes! Give us more of the long reaching effects of a war on planet Earth and the psychological impacts on the Transformers themselves, please. What’s really fascinating about this description, and something seen in the trailer, is the “Human/Cybertronian alliance.” There’s already been a few indications this show will take place after a war (possibly between the Autobots and Decepticons) and this human/robot alliance could have directly sprung out of the events of the war. The birth of the Terrans has given him renewed hope for the future.”įor those not keeping up with everything EarthSpark, the Terrans are new Autobots born on Earth. ![]() The official description for Optimus in EarthSpark, as revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, stated that he’s, “a courageous Autobot leader who has forged a new alliance with humans. He could be your buddy! Maybe in this series Optimus likes being able to just live a regular life when he can and enjoys getting to crack jokes. He’s not some far away bringer of justice, he’s just a guy! He doesn’t take himself too seriously. ![]() Sure he can slam that mask plate on when a fight get intense but seeing Optimus with a mouth (not the first time, Transformers Animated did it as well) just adds a more approachable quality to the character. Having a more expressive face helps quite a bit. Some fans may bristle at this lighter Optimus but come on, after such a long run it’s great to see that the people behind EarthSpark are willing to breathe new life into the character. That’s funny! Optimus Prime usually gets a wry comment here or there but a funny Optimus? Oh yes, please. Hahahaha.” Then he gives finger guns and winks.
